How does Noa’s view of Marlene change over the course of the novel? Do you think Noa respects, fears, or pities Marlene more than she hates her?

I would say that Noa's opinion of Marlene never changed, that she remained cynically distrustful. However, she did send her papers to Marlene at the end. Maybe she just didn't know what else to do, but it seemed strange to me that she would trust Marlene. The prison warden would have been a poor, but better, choice.

I don't think that Noa ever believed that Marlene was on her side.
I think the money did motivate her to separate Sarah and Caleb, but somehow that did not seem in character to me. Every time I thought I had Noa figured out, a new dimension was added to her character.
